What is meant by environmentally friendly air travel?

Some airlines give customers the choice to invest in environmental projects in order to offset the carbon emissions of a flight. Carbon offsetting is a means for people to accept responsibility for the impact of their travels, even though it is not a perfect solution. By reducing the aircraft’s total weight, lighter packing reduces fuel consumption. The amount of fuel used during takeoff and landing can be decreased by choosing direct flights whenever feasible. The rise of sustainable aviation fuels, or SAF for short, is one of the most exciting developments. Airbus plans to launch hydrogen-powered commercial aircraft by 2025, demonstrating the great potential of hydrogen fuel cells as a zero-emission substitute for longer flights. Additionally, CarbonClick electric aircraft are becoming more common, especially for short regional flights. Major airlines are already incorporating SAF into their operations, with some committing to significant usage targets by 2025.

Travelers can reduce their overall environmental impact by choosing direct flights over connecting ones, packing light to save fuel, or even offsetting the carbon emissions from their flights.

The cost of carbon offsetting varies depending on where you live, but typically costs around 2-3 per ton of CO2 offset. One option available to airlines for reducing their carbon emissions is to replace the fuel used in jets with alternative fuels such as biodiesel, green diesel, and other forms of biofuel.
